Investing in our Children: Childcare in Canada

Canada has a nascent industry that would inject $2.30 into the economy for every dollar invested in it. One whose job creation potential far exceeds construction or manufacturing, generating 40 jobs for every $1 million in spending. It would free up a more productive work force and support working parents in our country. What is this powerhouse industry? Read more...

Trade & the Softwood Lumber Sellout
A conversation with Peter Julian, MP

Trade expert Peter Julian, MP to visit Thunder Bay

Join MP Bruce Hyer on May 28 for a chance to meet New Democrat International Trade Critic Peter Julian (Burnaby-New Westminister).

Peter Julian is one of Parliament's most prominent critics on the Harper softwood lumber sellout that has resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of Canadian forest sector jobs. Called the "Iron Man" by the parliamentary press for his dogged determination on this Harper-Bush trade deal, Julian will be speaking about free trade and the Softwood Lumber Agreement - its impacts locally, and solutions going forward.

A silent auction will run throughout the evening. Tickets at $30 are selling fast. They include a sumptuous dinner, but must be purchased in advance:

6pm - Symposium
7pm - Dinner (vegetarian option available by reservation)

House Adopts C-311

Senate debate to start this week

Bill C-311 - the first step to a clean air, clean energy future

On behalf of the environment and future generations, THANK YOU THUNDER BAY-SUPERIOR NORTH!

Your countless letters to MPs, emails and help in joining thousands of Canadians across the country sped the House of Commons' adoption of the country's only federal climate change bill, C-311 the Climate Change Accountability Act, this month.

Private members bills rarely get this far, especially ones of such fundamental importance to the future health and prosperity of Canadians. With the House adopting this legislation to ensure clean air and clean energy for future generations, Canada is taking the first steps towards a greener future. But the fight isn't over yet - it still has to pass the Senate.

We need your help to make sure C-311 becomes law. Let Senators know how important this legislation is, that it must not be delayed, and that in this minority Parliament every vote counts.
